I've been having a recurring dream for the past couple of nights which triggered a curiosity in me to find what it could possibly mean. The recurring figure in my dreams - strangely - spiders. I google searched, and came across the "Dream Moods Dictionary," a website that interprets what certain images in dreams mean, and found that spiders are representativie of several things that I could relate to my life right now. Below is an excerpt from the site.
"To see a spider in your dream, indicates that you are feeling like an outsider in some situation. Or perhaps you want to keep your distance and stay away from an alluring and tempting situation. The spider is also symbolic of feminine power or an overbearing mother figure in your life. Alternatively, a spider refers to a powerful force protecting you against your self-destructive behavior. If you kill a spider in your dream, then it symbolizes misfortune and bad luck.
To see a spider spinning a web in your dream, signifies that you will be rewarded for your hard work. You will be promoted in your job or recognized for your achievement in a difficult task. Spiders are also a symbol of creativity due to the intricate webs they spin. On a negative note, spiders may indicate a feeling of being entangled or trapped in a sticky or clingy relationship. It represents some ensnaring and controlling force. You feel that someone or some situation is sucking the life right out of you. Alternatively, if a spider is spinning a web in your dream, then it could be a metaphor for the world wide web and global communication.
To see a spider climbing up a wall in your dream, denotes that your desires will be soon be realized.
To dream that you are bitten by a spider, represents a conflict with your mother or some dominant female figure in your life. The dream may be a metaphor for a devouring mother or the feminine power to possess and entrap. Perhaps you are feeling trapped by some relationship.
To eat a spider or dream that a spider is in your mouth, symbolizes your control over a situation. You are not afraid to exert your dominance in a relationship."

As much as “locals” of the area hate the term, it is the best descriptor of where I’m “from”. I was born in Washington, DC, spent a few years in Maryland, before ultimately crash landing in Virginia after my parents divorced. Summers and weekends were spent with my father in Clinton, Md, where I was lucky enough to grow up in the same house that we still live in to this day. My mother moved around significantly more. Through the course of my elementary education I attended 4 different schools… roughly a new school every year until we finally settled in a small town called Herndon. I feel as though all of the moves that I experienced early in life had some kind of effect on my ability to develop “long-term” relationships, but that’s another story for another time.
The area itself, although representative of three separate entities (D.C., Maryland and northern Virginia), is ridiculously small and would surely require less than six degrees of separation to tie everyone in the area to one another. This is becoming more and more apparent as the days go on. Don’t get me wrong, I love where I’m from. The area is chock full of beautiful scenery that can only be found in the DMV, it is adorned with museums, monuments, eateries, shopping… it is a wonderful place to grow up and I couldn’t ask for a better place to have “raised me.” However, like any young twenty-something that grows weary of hometown life, I am ready to move on and discover uncharted territories… a change of scenery, if you will.
Lately, I’ve been tossing back and forth the concept of completely dropping everything and starting over; a new location, faces, and memories to be made. My logic is that there is no better time than now. At this point in my life I am single, free of any real responsibilities (ie. Children, career, etc.) or anchors holding me down to this area.
