The B- Word x DC Screening

As you all may recall, a few months ago I flew to Los Angeles for the premiere screening of my cousin's first short film, "The B-Word." They have since traveled across the country showing the film at several film festivals and on college campuses. Recap: The B- Word Screening

15 - 18. Pre- "The B-Word" screening selfies.

16. The B-Word played on six screens in RAIN nightclub in Studio City, CA. There was a good turnout and everyone seemed to enjoy the three films that were played.

19 - 21. Post- screening fun. This wasn't the dress that I originally planned to wear.. but it was the first I tried on and I fell in love with the simplicity of it. It gave me a Carrie vibe. My sister Tamika was my date and she proved to be a true team player when the party moved from the screening to Sardo's karaoke bar! There's footage, but it will never get out.. lol. We performed Outkast "Ms. Jackson" in honor of their Coachella performance and Brandy "I Wanna Be Down."

 

( SIDE NOTE: The B- Word screening was so nice! From the film to the venue - I am so proud of my cousins for pulling off such a major feat. I can't wait for it to come to DC and to see what else these amazing girls have in store. Congrats ladies! )

“THE B WORD” is a cinematic short narrative depicting two sisters on conflicting paths; both leading to a destructive cycle of fear, blame and uncertainty. The story is set around the disease of “Bulimia Nervosa”, and how it’s debilitating factors can transform a sisterly bond into one of dysfunction; ultimately becoming unhealthy and toxic. This short is a fictionalized take on a growing epidemic in our community that has yet to be addressed on a grand scale.

The estimated cost to produce the “The B Word” is $5,000. Of course, in order to bring this groundbreaking and socially conscious short to the masses, we need your help. We setup a Kickstarter campaign and invite you to generously donate to our project. Please understand in order to bring this effort to the community, we need your help and support; any funding or awareness you can contribute is appreciated. In order to receive the requested amount of $5,000, we must reach or exceed our goal. All monies will be used for production cost such as gear, crew, locations, etc.

Awareness is priceless. “The B Word” hopes to start a conversation in the African-American community regarding bulimia. Gone is the time where we ignore the “elephant” in the room. Too long have we ignored our physical and mental health issues while eradicating our youth and children’s futures.
