MATTE Projects Presents BLACK

"When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for you to stand upon or you will be taught to fly."

MATTE Projects is bringing a collaborative music, design and art affair - BLACK - to the Brooklyn Hanger next Saturday, November 14th. BLACK, founded in 2013, promises to not only be a musical endeavor but a sensory experience as well.

I'm so excited to attend, and have my mind blown. From the talent, to the large raw warehouse space… this is right up my alley.

Artists include:
Parisian dark prince Gesaffelstein
Kanye West's creative director FLAT WHITE
Gener8ion
Berlin up and comer Tummetott
LA's nightlife princess Masha

(visual)
Cara Stricker
Nate Brown
Zach Walker

Meet me in Brooklyn November 14th! Tickets are available here, and are going fast.

A portion of the proceeds from BLACK will benefit React To Film's middle and high school program and college action network.

SIDE NOTE: I will have some of my work featured in the 10sq. Miles Pop-Up Shop tomorrow at the Fridge DC. Come out, its sure to be a good time. )

Toki's Synth Series

So I stumbled across a post on Toki's Synth Series on @RockCreekSocial's instagram page on Monday and decided it was something I wanted to see for myself. I rounded up my love Ashleigh, and ventured to DC in hopes of discovering this hidden gem.

The series, which 'uses yarn to visualize sound in three dimensions' is hidden in an abandoned building near Rhode Island Metro Station.... like literally.... AN ABANDONED BUILDING. It took us a while to figure out exactly how to get in, (thankfully we were able to catch a few Howard students coming out who helped with this) but once inside it was no easy feat. We had to literally climb into the building, which we weren't really dressed for, but it ended up being worth all of the mystery and effort.
The installation is a series of multicolored yarn weaved around columns in the middle of an old decaying factory. The windows are hollowed out so it makes for really dope lighting. Depending on where you're standing when viewing the installation the patterns formed vary. It's such a clever location as you have to be really curious to find it. I loved the adventurous appeal of that.

If you love adventure, and are looking for something to do on a random afternoon, I recommend it. I wouldn't recommend going too late, as it may get a little creepy roaming around an abandoned building at night.

Inspire the Tribe.

Liu Bolin x The Invisible Man x "Hiding in The City"

"Hiding in The City"
Liu Bolin

I may have posted some of his work previously on the blog, but to my delight Liu Bolin is still at it; creating optical illusions and immersing himself into his art - literally.

Do The Right Thing Block Party

This past weekend was the 25- year anniversary block party for 'Do the Right Thing' in Brooklyn. Unfortunately I didn't find out about it until the last minute, and although I was in town I wasn't able to make it. Luckily for me, my friend did (thanks Izzy!) and captured some awesome shots for me. So mad I missed out. Looked like a great time!

Zipper Street Art x Jun Kitagawa

Japanese street artist Jun Kitagawa uses giant zippers in his street art as a metaphor to suggest that there is more than what initially meets the eye, and that we should look beyond the surface and explore what's around us. Thanks for the reminder!

Jon Rafman, Keith Haring Theatre, 2013.
If Famous Artist Chose Interior Design Instead of Fine Art
What an interesting concept! How cool would it to be to walk into this theatre. I love the look of ceiling-to-floor art. I think someone should run with the idea... I know I'd be there.
