#TBT Hair Envy

Sitting here (killing time as my deep conditioning treatment soaks in) reminiscing over pictures from two years ago... pre- blonde, before what feels like countless cuts, shrinkage and a change in curl pattern; and before I had to stretch my curls to get them to hang longer. I love the length here but the definition in my curls has greatly improved now that straightening my hair is no longer a part of my weekly routine. Amazing to think that I achieved this length with little to no regard to how I was treating my hair. I put no thought into products, heat styled almost daily and didn't really care for wearing my hair in it's natural state. The only time it received any real tlc was when I was in the salon.

Now I'm a complete product junkie (complete with studying the ingredients and what my hair does and does not respond well to.. - post on that coming later), only go to the salon for trims three times a year, and don't care for my hair in any state other than my natural. Oh, how times have changed!

( SIDE NOTE: I'm working on a number of things… spiritually, mentally and physically; and 2015 will be the year that it all comes together. God willing.)

Natural Hairstyles: The Pineapple

I mentioned in my musings a few days ago that I've been wearing my hair up to prevent breakage/ split ends. This has been my go-to hairstyle as of late: the pineapple, pulling your hair into a loose ponytail directly atop your head, giving you a style that resembles the fruit.. hence the name. The idea behind this is to achieve perfect "second day curls" by only disturbing the underneath back of your hair and protecting the length as you sleep. I choose to wear mine day and night as not to snag my hair on my clothes which is another contributor to split ends. It's made my natural hair journey that much easier.

TBT x (Self) Length Envy

Jan 2012.
(I look so young here.)
I was scrolling through old pictures on my macbook today and these pictures caught my eye. I'm so anxious to get my length back.. I still have a long way to go, but I'm getting there. Since I started wearing my hair natural ninety-percent of the time, along with lightening it to a blonder shade, I am very cognizant of the products that I use. When I was straightening it constantly products weren't even a passing thought. I've had to throw out so many that contain alcohol and other harsh ingredients because of the damaging effects that they were unknowingly causing, and because of this I feel that my hair is actually healthier.

( SIDE NOTE: When my hair was this length I never really embraced my curls so I'm excited to see how the length and my 'fro will play out as well. )
