I find that I don't have much free time these days, so whenever I do I sneak off to Michaels and pick a new medium to experiment (II, III, IV, V) with. This time I chose acrylic paint and smaller 6 x 6 canvas. I've been very big into self portraits lately. As Frida Kahlo said, "I paint myself because I am the subject I know best." There's just something about breaking yourself down.. honestly, without trying to airbrush away the flaws and applying it to paper. Fall in love with the masterpiece that is you. No filter.
I may have posted some of his work previously on the blog, but to my delight Liu Bolin is still at it; creating optical illusions and immersing himself into his art - literally.

( SIDE NOTE: me and the homies *in my best Kendrick voice* caught an open mic at Bus Boys and Poets yesterday... which resulted in a lot of inquiries about my hoodie - a very awesome brand, LLULO. Hey Michelle! )
Catch me at Nubian Hueman's One Year Anniversary celebration this Saturday September 27th at Anacostia Arts Center. As I've mentioned in previous posts [ link, link, link, link, ]
I love this place!
Meet me here to celebrate black female entrepreneurship, good music
I love entertaining. It's probably one of my favorite things to do. Out of town visitors allow more freedom to do that than my 'local' friends because they're a lot more willing to explore an area that's new to them. I've lived in DC my whole life and there are so many untapped sources of fun that I don't take advantage of nearly enough.. but I'm getting better.
This weekend was unplanned for the most part. A friend told me about a "Beer Bourbon and BBQ" event that was being held in the Tyson's corner area which was entirely too convenient to pass up. The event was cool - unlimited beer, whiskey and wine tasting... along with various vendors serving up everything from a whole roasted hog to spreadable bacon. (I'm a non-pork eater so I was there solely for the drink and good time.) Sunday, the last official day of summer, was a chill one. Caught the Redskins game on an outdoor screen at the harbor - which we stumbled upon accidentally, and followed up with a bottle of wine at the Tasting Room.
Good times all around. Can't wait to see what fun the fall has to bring.
( SIDE NOTE: Discovered this song [Do I Wanna Know x Arctic Monkeys] this weekend. I'm late to the party, but it's perfection. )
