2010 was a year of discovery. It was about discovering myself - aside from everyone else around me. I laughed, cried, smiled, loved, learned, traveled, spent, gained, won and lost. This is my year in review.

creative:
  • I've spent more time updating this blog - albeit, I could do better
  • My poetry journal has nearly doubled in size and I am seriously considering publishing it in the next year
  • I spent a lot less time capturing memories on film this year. I miss that. Hopefully with a new camera I'll feel more inspired.
  • I had two articles published in a local political magazine which I am very proud of
  • 2010, along with new acquaintances, introduced me to a vast array of different types of music. I'm going to try to post more here soon.

friends:
  •  I made some great new friends in 2010 who in turn had a big impact on this list. I am very thankful for them. I also strengthened some bonds from the previous year.
  • On the other end, I found myself growing apart from a number of people. They'll be referred to as the 'lost ones'
travel:
  • I traveled more this year than I can remember of any year prior, and I hope to continue this trend through the new year
  • I went to Atlanta in February for a leadership conference
  • I've been to Chicago twice - once in July for "the Taste", and again in November - the second trip consisted of a road trip through Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland and ultimately back to Virginia
  • I went to the beach... finally. It had been years!
  • Florida, and
  • a Mexican cruise in August
  • not to mention I went to more concerts/ gigs than I ever had before.
love:
  • I learned a lot about this subject this year.. a whole lot. good & bad.
miscellaneous:
  • I turned 22.
  • Graduated from a four-year university, Cum laude
  • I flew on a plane, by myself, for the first time ever - and I was surprisingly calm.
  • After 5 years, I finally changed my number. It feels great, like a new slate. :)
  • I continued on my recycling streak. And will continue to do so.
  • Also, opened up two new credit card accounts, which I manage to pay off completely. I don't see what all the hype is about.

"I Dead 'Em All Now, I Buy The Caskets"

On repeat.
I thought I knew better

than to get caught up

stood up

told I wasn't good enough

until the day where I was truly fed up

tired of trying to win your trust

tired of the burden of trying to create "us"

tired of the constant merry go round

ups and downs

I was so lost in you

Planted the seeds of your wants

and as it grew

so did the shade that you threw

my way,

because you knew I would take it

no nuture

no

future

just an on going path where the light at the end was more of a flicker

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. When you figure out which it is, you know exactly what to do.

When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed outwardly or inwardly. They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend, and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be. Then, without any wrong doing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.

When people come into your life for a SEASON, it is because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn. They may bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh. They may teach you something you have never done. They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; those things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person/people (anyway); and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life. It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

I can not WAIT until New Years eve!

...And it's a long time coming

Now if we can change this to husband... ;)

The jealous friend, the possessive friend, the non-supportive friend, the pot stirring friend [who usually calls you just to gossip], the self absorbed friend that only wants to call you to vent, or brag [it is never about you]; are you bringing them into the New Year with you? The New Year marks a paradigm shift for many of us, and it is a great time to clean house; replacing the people in your life that sustain themselves by sucking the energy out of others.
I was guilty of keeping those people around me for quite some time and it did nothing but drain my energy, and leave me envious of people who had substantial, meaningful friendships. I had become one of those people I hated. A friend collector. Friend collectors are generally people that have about 550,000 friends associates; but no real friends. God, there is a difference...
